Stop 1: Tower of London
One of London's most iconic landmarks on the north bank of the Thames, and perhaps the one with the bloodiest history. The medieval castle is home to the Crown Jewels and their protectors, the Yeoman Warders, better known as the Beefeaters.
Stop 2: Tower Bridge
A Grade I listed bascule and suspension bridge, built between 1886 and 1894 to improve access to the East End. In its day it was the most sophisticated bascule bridge in the world.
Stop 3: The Gherkin
Formally 30 St Mary Axe, and named for its distinctive shape, this Swiss Re headquarters was London's first ecological tall building. At its summit, a club room offers a 360-degree panorama across the capital.
Stop 4: St Paul's Cathedral
Sir Christopher Wren's 17th-century Baroque masterpiece and arguably London's most iconic landmark, sitting on the city's highest point, Ludgate Hill.
Stop 5: Millennium Bridge
A 325m suspension footbridge across the Thames, designed by Foster & Partners and Sir Anthony Caro with Arup, and London's first new pedestrian bridge for over a century.
Stop 6: Borough Market
Lunch stop
Widely considered London's oldest food market, trading on its current site since 1756, with over 100 stalls across about 4.5 acres.
Stop 7: London Eye
One of the world's tallest observation wheels and one of the highest viewpoints in the capital, built to mark the turn of the millennium.
Stop 8: Big Ben & Houses of Parliament
One of England's best-known landmarks. Strictly, Big Ben is the great hour bell, but the name is commonly used for the whole clock tower at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament.
Stop 9: Westminster Abbey
England's most important church, the site of every coronation since William the Conqueror's in 1066 and of many royal weddings. Kings and queens including Henry VII and Elizabeth I rest here, alongside Geoffrey Chaucer, Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Dickens.
Stop 10: Buckingham Palace
The official London residence of the UK's sovereigns since 1837 and the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. Its 775 rooms include 19 State Rooms, which open to visitors every summer.
Stop 11: Trafalgar Square
The West End's great public square, named after the British naval victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and a meeting place ever since.
Stop 12: Piccadilly Circus
A busy junction in the heart of London, famous for its late-19th-century fountain and the neon advertising that made it a miniature Times Square.
Stop 13: Kensington Palace Garden
The birthplace of Queen Victoria and home to young royals for over 300 years, with Victoria's childhood rooms, the King's State Apartments and the famous Sunken Garden.
Stop 14: Portobello Market, Notting Hill
One of the most famous and historic street markets in the world, always changing and full of character. Come to explore, people-watch, hunt for bargains and grab a bite to eat.
Stop 15: Abbey Road & the Beatles' Walk
A road through St John's Wood, near Lord's Cricket Ground, best known for Abbey Road Studios and the zebra crossing on The Beatles' 1969 album cover, now a Grade II listed photo stop.
